What makes us different

  • Small groups, never crowds

We do not walk dogs in large groups. We walk a maximum of 6 dogs together (normally 4 or 5), which means your dog will not be cramped in the vehicle, is safer, will have their walker's attention and therefore have the maximum amount of fun possible!

  • Safe, fully equipped vehicles

All our staff have fully equipped vehicles with crates and safety belts, so you can be assured your dog is being transported in the safest way possible.

  • We do not use our homes as kennels

If your dog is booked in for day care or boarding, they will usually be the only dog or possibly with one other. We like to keep it a very homely experience for our pooches, so you will not turn up at a carer's home to find 10 dogs running around!

  • A walker matched to your dog

For dogs that need regular walks, we allocate by area, but normally we have more than one walker in each area. Wherever possible we will assign your dog to a group and walker suited to their breed type and personality.

  • Easy online booking

We have an easy online booking service. Each customer has their own login and can request and book services via our online portal.

  • Walks that fit your day

We take into consideration your working patterns and try to ensure where possible that your pet's day is broken up evenly, with a walk as close to lunchtime as possible.

  • We walk. Properly.

We always walk our dogs in an open space. We do not stand in parks with our pooches, we walk! This helps your dog to learn, exercise and socialise.

  • Daily updates for new customers

For every new customer that uses our regular dog walking service, we will give you daily updates for the first couple of weeks of how each walk went.

  • Nanny cam (well, sort of)!

All team members at The Pet Butler upload photos of the dogs and cats in their care daily to our Facebook page, so you can see what your pet has been up to!

Meet the team

Before your first service, a member of our management team will come to your home with the team member who will be caring for your pet, so you can meet face to face, ask anything you like and see our credentials in person. All staff are thoroughly interviewed and have at least two references.

Frequently asked questions

Everything owners usually ask us before their first walk or visit. Can’t find your answer? Ask us directly — we reply to every enquiry within 48 hours.

Q. What happens at the consultation?

The consultation is a chance for you to meet your pet's carer and ask any questions you may have. It gives us a chance to meet you and your pet and to find out what your requirements are. All areas will be covered, such as exercise, feeding habits, sleep routine and medical background. We will go through our terms and conditions with you, and show you our insurance policy and DBS cover.

Q. What areas do you cover?

The Pet Butler covers all of Portsmouth and Southsea, plus Cosham, Drayton, Farlington, Paulsgrove, Purbrook, Waterlooville, Cowplain, Denmead, Horndean and Clanfield.

Q. What insurance and security measures do you have?

All of our team are fully insured, and anyone holding a key to your property has an enhanced DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) check. We are also all canine first aid qualified. All staff are thoroughly interviewed and have at least two references. DBS and insurance documentation is available for you to see at the consultation.

Q. Where will my dog be walked?

Dogs are walked in various places including Wicor Wreck, Milton Common, Eastney Beach, Foxes Forest, Queen Elizabeth Country Park, Catherington Down and many more!

Q. How many dogs do you walk together?

Never more than six, and normally four or five. Small groups mean your dog is not cramped in the vehicle, is safer, and gets their walker's attention. For day care or boarding, your dog will usually be the only dog or with one other.

Q. How can I pay?

Dog walking or day care is invoiced from the 26th to the 25th of every month. You can pay via bank transfer. If booking cat sitting or dog boarding, you will be required to pay a 50% deposit on confirmation of booking to secure your slot. Any monies left to pay must be paid on the day of your departure. You will be sent an invoice once you have a confirmed booking.

Q. Where can I read your terms and conditions?

A plain-English summary of how we work is on our Terms page. We also go through our full terms and conditions with you at the consultation, together with our insurance policy and DBS documentation, so you can see everything before your first booking.
